APA Members Invited to Attend Beijing Conference

APA members are encouraged to attend a meeting in which the Association is collaborating with the Chinese Medical Association/Chinese Society of Psychiatry on April 7 to 9, 2000, in Beijing, China.

The theme of the meeting is "Chinese and American Psychiatry in the 21st Century." APA President Allan Tasman, M.D., has asked Jeffrey Geller, M.D., chair of the APA Council on International Affairs, to serve as the liaison for the scientific program issues.

The topics to be discussed by Chinese colleagues include "Psychosocial Risk Factors in Alzheimer’s Disease," "Chinese Classification of Mental Disorders," "Epidemiology of Mental Disorders in China," "Comparison Study Between Dysthmic Disorder and Neurasthenia," "Chinese Tao Psychotherapy," "Psychosocial Rehabilitation in China," "Advanced Addiction Psychiatry in China," and "Family Therapy in China." The deadline for abstracts is December 31.

The Chinese Medical Association, working with the APA Office of International Affairs, has organized special day-long tours on April 6 and 10 to major Beijing sites. The afternoons of the meeting days will be spent in hospital visits and cultural pursuits. In addition, there are five optional postmeeting tours.
