Board Appoints Ad Hoc Group to Review Election Process

The following article was prepared by APA's Elections Committee.

APA's Elections Committee and the Elections Oversight Committee received a number of complaints this year. These were reviewed in accordance with the usual procedures, as set out in APA's Operations Manual. The nature of the alleged violations investigated was considered by the Elections Committee to be of a similar nature to those reported in recent years. The Board of Trustees agreed that rather than report the specifics of the violations, as is the usual procedure, it established an ad hoc group to undertake a thorough review of all aspects of the APA elections with an expectation of a report back to the Board of Trustees within the coming year.

To assist in the interpretation of the election guidelines in the interim, the chair of the Nominating Committee, in addition to the Elections Committee and staff, will play a role in candidate education regarding the election guidelines.
