Washington, D.C., is a cosmopolitan, international city with manygreat places to eat while you're in town for APA's 1999 annual meeting in May. We polled many area psychiatrists and their spouses for their personal favorites, which are listed below by neighborhood. The Advance Registration Information Packet, mailed to all APA members in January, also contains a good list of restaurants compiled by the Task Force on Local Arrangements. Bon appetit!
Adams-Morgan
Cafe Lautrec: 2431 18th Street, N.W., (202) 265-6436. Casual yet elegant Parisian ambience with good food, reasonably priced.

Cleveland Park
Greenwood at Cleveland Park: 3529 Connecticut Avenue, N.W., (202) 833-6572. New American cuisine, nice ambience, good food.
Capitol Hill
Bis: 15 E Street, N.W., in the Hotel George, (202) 661-2700. Superb French bistro-type food and good selection of wines.
Cafe Berlin: 320 Massachusetts Avenue, N.E., (202) 543-7656. Excellent German restaurant with reasonable prices; outdoor patio.
La Colline: 400 North Capitol Street, N.W., (202) 737-0400. Excellent food, daily menu changes to reflect seasonal offerings, moderately expensive.
Two Quail: 320 Massachusetts Avenue, N.E., (202) 543-8030. Unique décor, nouveau American cuisine, romantic and fun.
Downtown
Coco Loco: 810 7th Street, N.W., (202) 289-2626. Art deco, Brazilian-style churras-queria.
Fran O'Brien's Steak House: 1001 16th Street, N.W., (202) 783-2599 (in the Capital Hilton Hotel). Excellent steaks in an ambience filled with interesting sports memorabilia.
Full Kee: 509 H Street, N.W., (202) 371-2233 (Chinatown). Great Hong Kong-style Chinese food at inexpensive prices.
Gerard's Place: 915 15th Street, N.W., (202) 737-4445. Delicious light French cuisine, romantic atmosphere, expensive.
Jaleo's: 480 7th Street, N.W., (202) 628-7949. Spanish atmosphere with sensational tapas and sherries.
Kinkead's: 2000 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., (202) 296-7700. Expensive but consistently delicious food; fish a specialty.
Occidental Grill: 1475 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., (202) 783-1475. Good regional American cuisine, very old Washington restaurant with interesting pictures on the walls.
The Prime Rib: 2020 K. Street, N.W., (202) 466-8811. Excellent beef and seafood in an elegant decor, expensive.
Rupperts: 1017 7th Street, N.W., (202) 783-0699. Trendy, creative restaurant with excellent wine list.
Sizzling Express: 1445 K Street, N.W., and 1400 I Street, N.W. Lunch only, buffet of fabulous cold and hot dishes, pay by the pound, eat in or take out.
Tabard Inn: 1739 N Street, N.W., (202) 331-8528. Great food, excellent Sunday brunch.
Vidalia: 1990 M Street, N.W., (202) 659-1990. Upscale Southern cuisine, expensive.
Dupont Circle

Kramer Books: 1517 Connecticut Avenue, N.W., (202) 387-1400. Delicious, moderately priced food, open late.
Mediterranean Blue: 1910 18th Street, N.W., (202) 483-2583 (around the corner from the Washington Hilton Hotel). Delicious Mediterranean food and pastas, reasonably priced.
Obelisk: 2029 P. Street, N.W., (202) 872-1180. Remarkable Italian trattoria with fixed-price menu and interesting wine list.
Sostanza: 1606 20th Street, N.W., (202) 667-0047 (formerly Vincenzo's). Authentic Italian cuisine, mostly Sicilian, nice ambience, small but excellent wine list.
Georgetown
Bangkok Bistro: 3251 Prospect Street, N.W., (202) 337-2424. Excellent Thai food in elegant setting, reasonably priced.
Cafe Milano: 3251 Prospect Street, N.W., (202) 333-6183.
1789 Restaurant: 1226 36th Street, N.W., (202) 965-1789. Wonderful food in a romantic setting.
Glover Park
Busara: 2340 Wisconsin Avenue, N.W., (202) 337-2340. Thai food that is always good, attractive, and reasonably priced.
Cactus Cantina: 3300 Wisconsin Avenue, N.W., (202) 686-7222. Mexican-style food, Tex-Mex cuisine, and mesquite-grilled fajitas.
Woodley Park
Lebanese Taverna: 2641 Connecticut Avenue. N.W., (202) 265-8681. Tasty, varied Middle Eastern food, good fish, family ambience.
New Heights: 2317 Calvert Street, N.W., (202) 234-4110. Consistently good food, adventurous and varied menu, many vegetarian entrees.
