The Office of Research asks that chairs of departments of psychiatry nominate persons to be invited to the Breakfast for Young Investigators to be held on Tuesday, May 18, at APA's annual meeting in Washington, D.C.
This annual breakfast, which is jointly sponsored by APA's Office of Research, Council on Research, and the van Ameringen Foundation, presents an opportunity for residents interested in psychiatric research careers, psychiatric research trainees, and junior research faculty to talk informally with distinguished senior researchers. The breakfast is by invitation only.
Tables are designated by area of research interest, and attendees are encouraged to circulate freely. The list of topics to be covered at the 1999 Breakfast for Young Investigators thus far include alcohol and drug abuse research, child psychiatry research, choosing and using a research fellowship, epidemiology/health services research, clinical research, geriatric research, minorities in psychiatric research, mood and anxiety disorders research, neuroscience/basic science research, psychopharmacology research, psychosocial treatment research, schizophrenia research, and women in psychiatric research.
As in past years, APA's Office of Research will invite senior researchers whose areas of expertise encompass each of these topics and who will be available at one of the tables to share their knowledge and experience with the psychiatric residents, research trainees, and young faculty attending the breakfast.
Further information is available by contacting Ernesto Guerra of APA's Office of Research at (202) 682-6225.
