Clarification About Annual Meeting Registration for International Members, Fellows

To get the member registration rate at the 1999 APA annual meeting (a $300 savings), psychiatrists applying to become international members and fellows must send all required membership documentation (application, photocopy of medical license, and one letter of reference from an APA member) and their 1999 membership dues to Patricia Anthony in the APA Office of Membership by March 12, 1999. The deadline of March 1 reported in the December 4 issue was incorrect.

The 1999 annual meeting will be held May 15 to 20 in Washington, D.C., and the registration packet will be sent out in January 1999. Psychiatrists living outside the U.S. and Canada are asked to contact the APA Office of International Affairs for this packet and related materials at (202) 682-6126; fax: (202) 789-8882; e-mail: emercer@psych.org.

Processing Time

The March 12 deadline was chosen so that staff can process the international membership applications in time for the Registrar to grant the discounted registration fee to confirmed members who register for the annual meeting before the advance registration deadline of April 12, 1999. Anyone not meeting this deadline must register on site.

The international member and international fellow categories are new APA membership categories for psychiatrists living outside of the United States and Canada. They replace the corresponding member and corresponding fellow categories, which will no longer exist after December 31.

Benefits

Among the benefits that international members and fellows will enjoy are discounts on APA publications, special registration rates for APA meetings, and a newsletter written specifically for these members.

Current corresponding members and corresponding fellows can transfer automatically to the new categories by sending in the designated dues payment on their annual dues invoice.

More information about the new international membership category is available by calling the APA Answer Center at (202) 682-6000; callers within the U.S. and Canada should call (888) 35-PSYCH.
