International Members Offered Valuable Benefits

Many of APA's corresponding members and corresponding fellows told the Association that they wanted a category of APA membership that provided real benefits to international members. APA responded by creating two membership categories for them and developing the benefits they had requested, including discounts on APA publications and special registration rates for APA meetings.

The two new categories-international member and international fellow-are now the only categories of APA membership for psychiatrists living outside of the United States and Canada.

Current corresponding members and corresponding fellows can transfer automatically to the new categories by sending in the designated dues payment on their annual dues invoice.

The categories of corresponding member and corresponding fellow will no longer exist after December 31.

International members and international fellows have many opportunities to learn about advancements in patient care and participate in shaping the future of psychiatry worldwide.

All approved international members and international fellows who submit their 1999 annual meeting registration forms with payment by March 12 will be eligible for the discounted annual meeting registration rate. After March 1, the international member registration rate will not be available.

The 1999 annual meeting will be held May 15 to 20 in Washington, D.C., and the registration packet will be mailed in January 1999.

More information about the new international membership category is available by calling the APA Answer Center at (202) 682-6000; callers within the U.S. and Canada should call (888) 35-PSYCH.
