Psychiatrists who live outside the United States and Canada and are interested in joining APA as international members can now do so easily by downloading a membership application form from APAfastFAX. The phone number for APAfastFAX in the U.S. and Canada is (888) 267-5400; in other countries, it is (503) 402-1365. The document code is 2312.

The new international members category became official after it was overwhelmingly approved by the membership on the ballot for APA's 1998 election.
With the creation of the international members category, the category of corresponding members and fellows will be discontinued at the end of the year. Members in this category will not have to reapply as international members but will be automatically transferred to the new category after they pay their membership dues later this year.
International member dues are $150 per year, and benefits include a $300 reduction on the registration fee at the annual meeting; discounted subscriptions for APA publications (for example, $30 off the annual subscription rate of the American Journal of Psychiatry and $20 off of Psychiatric News and Psychiatric Services); a newsletter geared especially for international members to which Americans and Canadians can subscribe; a membership card and certificate; use of the APA Library; and special list serves on the Internet.
