Kudos to the chair of APA's Ethics Committee, Peter Gruenberg, M.D., for his initiative to have APA set its own ethics codes apart from that of the AMA. As one of the 65 percent of APA members who do not belong to the AMA, I feel that it makes good horse sense not to have an organization that promotes discrimination against mental health care set psychiatry's ethics standards. If any APA member questions the reality of this discrimination, just read any AMA-sponsored medical insurance offer.
