New Association

Recently the American Psychotherapy Association was formed. The purpose of the association, which is composed of medical and nonmedical providers, is training, credentialing, and certification of health care professionals engaged in the practice of psychotherapeutic delivery.

We are concerned with the preservation of psychotherapy and the maintenance of the best care possible for our patients through research, education, and dissemination of valuable information. Outcome research will be distributed to governmental organizations, health maintenance and insurance organizations, and the public. We will attempt to provide a place for psychotherapists to learn and teach, have a sense of belonging, and network with other members. Developing ethical standards and a system of continuing certification is paramount.

We invite inquiries at all levels of professional experience. More information is available by contacting Cheryl Campbell, deputy director, at the American Psychotherapy Association, 2750 East Sunshine Street, Springfield, Mo. 65804; phone: (417) 881-3818; fax: (417) 881-4702.
