I am quite uncomfortable having a group of people decide whether the already extremely high dues of $975 should be increased or frozen (Psychiatric News, August 15). It is especially unsettling when it appears that most of these people have their dues paid by the medical school or hospital that employes them.
There are many thousands of us who either are in private practice or work for a state hospital, as I do, and find each increase more unbearable. This is especially so since the affairs of the private psychiatric physician have been so poorly handled despite dues and political action committees from which mailings never cease. I no longer wish to see this congregation of people whose expenses are being paid by me and others like me deciding dues increases that do not affect their pocketbooks!
