The phrase heard on rounds during medical school days of "see one, do one, teach one" has led me to reflect that if one has never seen one or done one, how can one possibly teach one?
This seems to be the plight that many current and future psychiatry residents face if they fail to receive adequate training in the broad breadth of psychiatry, including psychotherapy.
I share Dr. Sargent's cogent concern about the short-term plight of our patients whose "care" has been shunted to colleagues with lesser training.
