APA Members Invited to Scotland
When Great Britain’s Royal College of Psychiatrists holds its 2000 annual meeting July 3 to 7, it will set aside one day during the five-day meeting to celebrate America’s independence from British rule. The day chosen is July 4, the second day of the annual meeting.
APA is involved in planning the scientific content of the July 4 sessions, and former APA Medical Director Melvin Sabshin, M.D., has been named to the conference’s organizing committee.
The meeting, which will be held at the International Conference Centre in Edinburgh, Scotland, will use freedom and independence as a special theme for its scientific sessions focusing on clinical care and research advances.
The Royal College notes as well that another major focus will be on "both the opportunities and constraints—clinical, economic, political, religious, or social—under which psychiatrists in Europe and North America may have to teach and practice."
There will be a program of interesting and unique social events from which to choose, including a Scottish night with music and dancing at famous Edinburgh Castle.
Information about the Royal College’s meeting is available by telephone at 020 7235 2351; fax: 020 7245 1231; or through its Web site: <www.rcpsych.ac.uk>.
