Residents Urged to Participate in APA Institute on Psychiatric Services

APA's fall meeting gives residents an opportunity to present scientific information at a major psychiatric meeting.

Psychiatry residents will have a valuable opportunity this fall to present their research at a national meeting sponsored by APA.

From October 25 to 29, APA will be hosting its 52nd Institute on Psychiatric Services in Philadelphia. The institute will feature poster sessions that will make it easy for residents who are working on research projects to present their findings to a national audience. In the past, roughly 90 percent of all poster submissions were accepted at the Institute on Psychiatric Services.

There will be five poster sessions. The poster submission deadline is June 5.

Residents will be able to attend the institute at a reduced registration fee of $60 by registering before the September 22 advance registration deadline.

In addition to the poster sessions, the institute will present many other experiences of particular interest to residents, including several multimedia, videotape, and computer sessions; a residents-only "Meet the Experts" luncheon featuring nationally known faculty experts for informal consultation and networking; a residents-only welcoming reception; clinical consultation sessions on a wide variety of topics in general and public psychiatry; and mentorship opportunities to residents new to the institute provided by the APA/Bristol-Myers Squibb Fellows.

The institute will also feature daily prize drawings and receptions in the Exhibit Hall and industry-supported breakfast, lunch, and dinner symposia.

Residents interested in submitting posters are asked to contact APA’s Answer Center at (888) 357-7924 to obtain a submission form.

Further information is available by contacting Jill Gruber, associate director of the Institute on Psychiatric Services, at (202) 682-6314.
