Resource Center for Women Psychiatrists Only

Women psychiatrists are welcome to participate in a series of special sessions and events planned just for them.

Women psychiatrists are invited to participate in special events planned just for them and pick up a variety of materials on women’s programs at the Women’s Resource Center (WRC) at APA’s 2000 annual meeting next month in Chicago.

The WRC will be open 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, May 15, through Wednesday, May 17. The location is Hospitality Suite #4 on the third floor of the Hyatt Regency McCormick. The WRC is funded by a grant from Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Here are some of the events to be held at the WRC:

APA’s Committee on Women is holding a networking luncheon for representatives of district branch women’s committees on Wednesday, May 17, noon to 2 p.m. This event is by invitation only and will be chaired by committee member Doris Gundersen, M.D.

• Another committee member, Deborah Spitz, M.D., is organizing a question-and-answer luncheon session for women on strategies for passing the ABPN board examinations. It will be held Tuesday, May 16, at noon.

• The APA Women’s Mentoring Network is entering its third successful year. On Tuesday, May 16, Lisa Kotler, M.D. and Smita Patel, M.D., also of the Committee on Women, will host a breakfast from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. for current participants, as well as those interested in joining the network as either a mentor or mentee. Network members will give advice on how to get the most out of a mentoring relationship.

Other events of interest to women psychiatrists at APA’s annual meeting include a component workshop sponsored by the Committee on Women titled "Generations of Mentoring: From Receiving to Giving." It will be held in room 4D of the Chicago Hilton from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday, May 15. In this workshop, chaired by Spitz, five women psychiatrists will share their mentoring experiences.

Nada Stotland, M.D., the winner of the 2000 Symonds Award, will deliver the Alexandra Symonds Award Lecture in McCormick Place Lakeside, E353, level 3, on Monday, May 15, at 9 a.m.

The Caucus of Women Psychiatrists and the Association of Women Psychiatrists will hold their annual joint meeting on Monday, May 15, in the Marquette Room on the third floor of the Chicago Hilton from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided, and enrollment forms for both groups will be available.
