ASHP to Present ‘Hispanic Day’ During Annual Meeting

The American Society of Hispanic Psychiatry (ASHP) is sponsoring "Hispanic Day" in conjunction with APA’s 2000 annual meeting next month in Chicago.

It will take place on Saturday, May 13, at the Adams Ballroom of the Palmer House Hilton in Chicago.

"Hispanic Day" includes four symposia on epidemiology and service research, education and special populations, PTSD, and studies on mood disorders and schizophrenia among Hispanic and non-Hispanic populations.

The panelists are Latin American and Spanish psychiatrists, as well as Hispanic U.S. psychiatrists. The keynote speaker is Edward James Olmos, the actor and social activist for Hispanic causes. He will speak during the luncheon. The program will conclude with a dinner-dance on the 100th floor of the Sears Twin Towers.

More than 300 attendees are expected, according to the Organizing Committee, chaired by ASHP President Jose Canive, M.D., Renato D. Alarcon, M.D., M.P.H, and Moises Gaviria, M.D.
