AAGP Presents Awards

The American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry presented its first annual AAGP pioneer awards at its annual meeting last month in Miami Beach. The awards recognize investigators who have made outstanding contributions to the initiation and growth of geriatric psychiatric research in the U.S. Here are the winners:

Senior Investigator Award:

Gary W. Small, M.D., Parlow-Solomon Professor on Aging and a professor of psychiatry and biobehavioral sciences director at the UCLA Center on Aging

AAGP-Pfizer Awards for Pioneering Contributions to Geriatric Psychiatry Research:

Dan G. Blazer, M.D., J.P. Gibbons Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Duke University Medical Center

Lizzy F. Jarvik, M.D., Ph.D., professor emeritus at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute

Barry Gurland, M.D., Sydney Katz Professor and director of the Stroud Center at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center

AAGP-Pfizer and Eisai Alzheimer’s Disease Research Fellowship Award:

Howard Jay Aizenstien, M.D., Ph.D., fellow in geriatric psychiatry at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center
