Proud of Profession

As a recently retired psychiatrist, I have to tell you of the pride I have recently felt for our profession. It was brought home by the December 17 issue of Psychiatric News, which had several outstanding articles. Among them were the following:

• The heroic efforts of Noel Drury, M.D., the Montana psychiatrist, for his crusade against Magellan, an exploitive, non-caring behavioral health organization.

• The psychiatrists who responded to the EgyptAir tragedy and created a team through the Disaster Psychiatric Outreach Inc. How innovative!

• Donna Norris, M.D., reminding us of our most important mission—keeping patients first.

They all assure us of the creative and caring nature of the psychiatric profession.
